  • These price hikes are attributed to the international oil market’s fluctuations.

Inflation woes continue to plague the people of Pakistan as the government prepares to implement yet another blow to their wallets. The impending increase in petrol and diesel prices is set to exacerbate the ongoing struggle of the masses to make ends meet.

Pakistan currently employs a biweekly pricing mechanism for petroleum products, a system introduced in September 2022 by the PTI government. Previously, fuel prices underwent monthly revisions.

The revised prices for petrol and diesel are expected to be announced on the night of September 15 and will take effect on September 16.

Reports suggest that petrol prices may surge by Rs9.70 per litre, while diesel prices could increase by Rs11 per litre. These price hikes are attributed to the international oil market’s fluctuations, notably triggered by Saudi Arabia’s decision to reduce oil production.

As of now, petrol in Pakistan costs Rs305.36 per litre, and diesel is priced at Rs311.84 per litre. If the reported increases are implemented, petrol will climb to Rs315.06 per litre, while diesel will reach Rs 322.84 per litre.

The government is expected to make an official announcement regarding these price adjustments on the night of September 15. These developments highlight the economic challenges faced by Pakistanis, who are grappling with the persistent issue of inflation that continues to erode their purchasing power.
