The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Algorand Foundation are teaming up to launch a new Blockchain Academy. Their goal? To educate more than 22,000 UNDP team members from 170 countries, as well as other UN agency staff, about blockchain technology.
Set to kick off in 2024, the Algorand Blockchain Academy plans to give UNDP staff a solid grounding in blockchain through a specialized educational program. This will include things like recorded lessons, hands-on workshops, and practical projects designed to familiarize participants with how blockchain can be used for sustainable development.
Robert Pasicko, from the UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub, highlighted the importance of this training at the recent Algorand Impact Summit. He mentioned how it would equip their team with the necessary tools to tackle global challenges using blockchain. Pasicko also praised the collaboration with the Algorand Foundation and its experts, seeing it as a way to empower and inspire UN workers worldwide.

The program will cover a range of areas, from improving financial access and ensuring transparency in supply chains to tokenizing assets and creating secure digital identities. Doro Unger-Lee, Head of Education and Inclusion at the Algorand Foundation, was excited about the partnership, emphasizing its potential to drive innovation and tech advancements for societal benefit. Unger-Lee stated that this educational initiative was a crucial first step in identifying and implementing practical uses for blockchain, specifically to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in various fields.
What’s interesting is that the curriculum will incorporate insights from important Algorand ecosystem projects like HesabPay, Wholechain, Koibanx, and Quantum Temple. The initial testing of the platform is scheduled to start early in 2024, gradually rolling out throughout the year.
